Is ZenWriter free to use?
Yes. The writing app is free, and you can create documents without an account. Open a new document and start writing.
Where is my writing saved?
Your draft saves automatically in this browser after you pause typing. Check for “Saved locally” before closing the tab, or press Command+S on Mac or Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux. Documents do not sync between devices or browser profiles.
How do I keep a copy of my writing?
Choose “Download as text” in the editor to save a .txt file. Download important entries regularly: clearing site data, using private browsing, or losing access to this device can remove your drafts. You can open a downloaded file in another text editor or copy its text into a new document.
Can I use it as an online journal?
Yes. Create a separate document for each entry and give it a title you can find later. Your document text stays in the browser; anyone with access to the same browser profile may be able to read it. The app is not a password-protected journal.
What does ZenWriter send to a server?
Your document text stays in this browser. Google Analytics measures visits to this homepage; the writing workspace is excluded. If you send feedback, your note and optional email are sent so we can read them.
